The Drew Vassar Memorial Fishing Tournament

This page is for those who are not familiar with Drew or the history behind the tournament.  Fishing came as easy to Drew as breathing. He loved music, driving in the family business, baseball, and above all else he loved to fish, he loved his church, and he loved his Lord. Starting out at an early age, Drew began fishing on his family's land at Smith Mtn Lake in Bedford County. As he grew older, he began to explore anything to do with water. At a pretty young age, he bought his first boat, and was immensely proud and excited so he began to fish in tournaments all around the state.

At the ripe and raw age of 22, Drew's life was suddenly, tragically, and unexpectedly taken in a truck accident in November of 2013. His parents, grandparents, sister, cousins, aunts/uncles, friends, church and co-workers were and still are in a state of shock, grief, and pain. We struggle everyday to survive and live our lives so that we may one day again be reunited with Drew. In a time of  deep despair and anguish, his family, church, and community have maintained a promise; that Drew will not be remembered for his death, but for his life. For Drew, his life involved God, his family, his friends, and his love for the water.  On September 16th, 2016 we hope you will join us to remember Amherst's finest fisherman.

"And he said unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men"
